Spring has officially begun here in western Pennsylvania. Like every spring, we’ve had nice warm temps, followed by a drop back to freezing for a few days, and now temps are on the rise again. Of course, we act shocked and are angry when it gets cold, especially during a late spring like this, even though it’s obviously not uncommon. Even though I’ve only lived here a decade (gee, has it really been THAT long?), it’s pretty obvious that it’s been this way a long, long time since planting season doesn’t start until Memorial Day…global warming or not. But, we continue to grouse about the weather, even though it’s always been this way.
So here’s my complaint…the humidity. No, I’m not vain enough to care about what it does to my hair (although it makes the nearly 2- year olds curls absolutely bonkers), I merely care that it’s hard to breathe. And I should also complain that my clothes and hair are absolutely drenched with sweat 10 minutes into my pre-dawn run in 60 degrees. It ALMOST makes me miss winter….no, that’s a lie, it’s not possible.
Last year I ran one 95 degree day in full sun. It really wasn’t good. I almost wished for winter then, but just almost. Guess the truth is that I need to plan ahead. I need to have hydration with me, go out in dim or no sun, and not push hard on those super hot and humid days. I need to be smart, and I hope you will too.
