This past weekend, I ran with a new Mama friend from our local chapter of Moms RUN This Town. Since I’m building mileage for my next half marathon, and I am on week 5 of my Galloway training plan, I was scheduled to run 9 miles. I brought my trusty Nathan 4-bottle water belt, but only brought two bottles on the trail, leaving two in my car.
I started out alone. No one had come to our meet up for the weekend, but I was prepared for that. I had my iPod nano set to Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins, which I’ve read several times, so I was free to look around and enjoy the green. It was a very pleasant run. The trail is 1.6 miles long, and ends at a stream. It is almost completely shaded by trees, and while I couldn’t say it was cool, it wasn’t so hot that I couldn’t breathe either. I was covered in sweat by the first complete out and back, and was thankful that my new Mama friend ran into me on my way back, and that I try to always wear something MRTT when I’m meeting up with the chapter.
I don’t think I could’ve run 9 miles this weekend without having my friend to chat with. We talked about nothing of importance, but what do runners talk about…shoes, stride, distances we have run and want to run, weather (in this case, how much we were sweating), support of family, etc. We kept it light and enjoyable and I ran 9 miles. It’s been a long time since I’ve run 9 miles.
When we were done, we walked back to our cars, stopping at her van (which has her 26.2 sticker on it….I’m so jealous, can’t wait until I can do that). A few minutes in, I saw steam rising…I thought it was her car, but it was ME…my body was throwing off steam. I don’t think I”ve ever noticed that before. It was weird…so now, I’m not only a stinky mom, but a steamy mom too…and now I’m off, strutting like one hot MAMA!
In the interest of not getting sued…I am borrowing this image from http://vaishakhilahoti.com/blog/the-strutting-peacock/
